Storm players helps deliver session to stars of the future

As part of Western Storm’s commitment to helping increase the number of women and girls playing, following and supporting cricket a number of the squad helped to deliver a special coaching session.

Smriti Mandhana, Anya Shrubsole, Fran Wilson and Sophie Luff joined coaches from Somerset Cricket Board to help deliver the latest ‘Be a little Stormer Girls Camp’ at the Cooper Associates County Ground this week.

The initiative is designed for girls aged between 7 and 12 years old who want to try cricket, and take part in fun skills, activities and games.

Not only did the children learn some top tips from some of the biggest names in the sport, they also received a Western Storm goodie bag plus a free ticket to a Western Storm KIA Super League match.

After the session the Storm players took part in a Q&A session with those present and also spent time signing autographs.

After the session Anya Shrubsole said: “I think the session went really well. The girls all seemed to really enjoy themselves and ultimately that’s what really matters. The point is that girls come here, have a really good time and want to keep playing cricket.

“Events like this are hugely important. We want to get as many girls as possible to enjoy playing cricket. You never know, a few of the girls we’ve had here today may go on to play cricket at the very highest level and represent England!”
