VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Ahead of the match, Western Storm Head Coach, Trevor Griffin said: “We love playing at Taunton, and to have this as a double header certainly adds something extra. We know that there will be a good crowd in and we’re looking forward to hopefully putting in a good show.
“South East Stars are a well drilled unit and I’d expect nothing less from a side coached by Johann Myburgh. It’ll be another tough game but there are no easy games in this competition. As long as we concentrate on what we can do, execute our skills and play the way that we want to play then it should be another exciting game.”
THE OPPOSITION
South East Stars
Captain: Bryony Smith
2022 finish: Semi-finals
2022 leading runscorer: Aylish Cranstone (235)
2022 leading wicket taker: Bryony Smith (11)
Key winter moves: Paige Scholfield moved to Stars from Southern Vipers over the winter and already has two centuries, her first-ever in List-A cricket, among 300-plus runs in the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy. The 27-year-old South African all-rounder will look to carry that confidence into the shorter format.
Player to watch: Sophia Dunkley had an underwhelming Women’s Indian Premier League stint, but her unbeaten hundred for Stars in their RHFT defeat to Northern Diamonds this week suggests she may have found her mojo ahead of the shorter format. A shoo-in for England these days, if Dunkley is at her explosive best, Stars should be tournament favourites.
FAN VILLAGE
In association with Jurassic Fibre, Somerset County Cricket Club will be launching a brand-new fan village at this match. The new and improved Jurassic Fibre Fan Village will still be situated at the St James Street side of the Cooper Associates County Ground and will feature more space and a much wider range of entertainment, food and drink offerings.
The Jurassic Fibre Fan Village will host a large selection of varied food and drink options and a large self-pouring bar. There will also be live music before and after each match.
In addition to this, there will be all manner of entertainment throughout, including a special virtual reality cricket game plus giveaways, competitions and much more!
Don’t forget our ‘buy one get one free’ happy hour from 4pm to 5pm on Thatchers, Carlsberg, the Coca Cola range, spirit & mixer cans, wine and water before each match.
NEXT MATCH
Western Storm’s next match is on Wednesday May 31st when we take on Sunrisers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup at the County Ground, Northampton.
This match is a double header which also features Northants Steelbacks v Birmingham Bears.
