Storm Sign Piepa Cleary
Western Storm can today announce that we have signed Australian bowler, Piepa Cleary on a short-term contract.
The 26-year-old has signed for Storm’s next three Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy matches and will be eligible for selection for this weekend’s clash against the Blaze at the Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol.
Piepa, who has represented Perth Scorchers in the WBBL, Welsh Fire in The Hundred, and both Lightning and Thunder in the English regional domestic competitions, has featured in over 70 one-day matches in which she has taken 71 wickets at an average of 37.85 with a best of four for 50.
Head Coach, Trevor Griffin outlines why he has elected to make the move for the experienced right-arm medium pacer.
“With Lauren Filer and Dani Gibson still away with England we felt that we were a little bit light on powerplay bowlers,” he explained. Piepa will bring a wealth of experience and she can bowl effectively throughout different phases of the game.
“She’s played for Western Australia in the Women’s National Cricket League and the Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash. She also has experience of English conditions due to having previously featured in the Hundred and the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy.
“Her experience will add something positive to the squad, and I’m excited to see how our younger players will learn from her while she’s with us.”
