2023 RHFT: Stars v Storm - Match Abandoned
No result was possible in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy game between South East Stars and Western Storm at Beckenham, with play abandoned after 36 overs.
The Storm were on 182 for four when rain forced the players from field, with Sophie Luff unbeaten on 34 and Niamh Holland two not out. Emma Corney was the top scorer with 48.
Alice Davidson-Richards took two for 27 for The Stars, but increasingly heavy rain forced the players off just before 1pm and the game was abandoned at 3.44pm.
The Stars won the toss and chose to field at a New County Ground buffeted by high winds and under heavy cloud cover.
Storm openers Alex Griffiths and Corney put on 50 for the opening wicket before the former was out for 27 when she tried to hit Alexa Stonehouse through mid-wicket, where Paige Scholfield made a brilliant, one-handed, diving catch.
Davidson-Richards then struck in her first over to remove Fran Wilson, who’d made 23 from 24 balls before she was caught by Ryana MacDonald-Gay at point.
Corney fell two short of her half-century when she miscued Richardson-Davies to Bryony Smith at mid-off, but Luff and Dani Gibson put on 63 for the next wicket before Freya Davies had the latter caught by Davidson-Richards at long on for 35.
Holland joined Luff in the middle but at this point the intermittent rain turned into a downpour and with the forecast unremittingly grim no result was declared.
