Anya's Sri Lanka Diary
England are currently touring Sri Lanka where they will play three ODIs and three IT20s.
To keep us up to date with what’s going on behind the scenes, Western Storm’s Anya Shrubsole will be writing a Tour Diary.
Here is part one:
“It’s great to be out here in Sri Lanka, but the heat takes some getting used to!
“We’re really excited about the three ODIs, especially as we’re coming off the back of some good form across the IT20s in India.
“Winning is a great habit to get into and even though we didn’t start the series in India as we would have liked, it was great to bounce back and show the character and resilience we have in this team.
“We weren’t able to come back and win the ODI series, but it wasn’t the first time as a side that we’ve lost before coming back to show what we can do. We were disappointed with how we started but you’ve got to take that sort of response.
“It’s definitely warmer out here in Sri Lanka but that’s what we train for and it can’t be an excuse. We know it won’t be easy. Sri Lanka are not a side you can underestimate. They ran South Africa pretty close in two of their recent ODIs, so we have to turn up and perform. That’s what we can control.
“Away from the cricket it’s been a tour where you’ve either been finding the air-con or the local wildlife! Our hotel is about five minutes away from an elephant orphanage here in Hambantota, so that’s high on the agenda.
“Our focus is very much on the first ODI and hopefully putting in a good performance, getting the win and claiming the two ICC Women’s Championship points.”
