Central Sparks v Western Storm: LIVE
Western Storm take on Central Sparks at Edgbaston Community Sports Centre today in a 50-over pre-season match.
The toss was uncontested and Central Sparks batted first.
Dani Gibson was outstanding in her opening spell and claimed the wickets of Evelyn Jones, Davina Perrin and Chloe Brewer to reduce Sparks to 20 for three.
When Abbey Freeborn was trapped lbw by Niamh Holland, the home side were 41 for four, and when Ami Campbell fell for 40 it was 66 for five.
Katie George and Emily Arlott shared a sixth wicket stand of 47 before the former Storm bowler was bowled by Chloe Skelton for 23.
Arlott was eventually dismissed for 74 to become Gibson’s fourth victim, and Central Sparks finished their 50 overs on 254 for 11.
Gibson was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 35 from her eight overs whilst there were two wickets each for Holland, Isla Thomson and Lola Harris.
In reply, Western Storm openers Rebecca Odgers and Emma Corney shared a stand of 46 before the former fell for 22. Corney was dismissed for the same score at 65 for two.
Sophie Luff and Fran Wilson then put on 110 for the third wicket before Luff was out for 56, her runs coming from 73 balls.
Wilson and Gibson then shared a stand of 52 until Wilson retired out on 84 at 227 for four.
Gibson finished on 37 not out as Storm reached 257 for five from 44.3 overs.
