VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Ahead of the fixture, Western Storm Captain, Sophie Luff said: “It’s important to build on Wednesday’s win and to keep that confidence running through the squad. It was great to get some points on the board, but we know that we didn’t really hit our straps. To have the middle to lower order step up like they did though was brilliant, and is a good sign for us moving forward.
“Stars are another good side with some quality players and we will have to be at our best if we want to come out on top. There’s a good feeling in the camp at the moment and hopefully we can transfer that into a positive result this weekend.”
THE OPPOSITION
SOUTH EAST STARS
Head Coach: Johann Myburgh
Captain: Bryony Smith
Key player: Tash Farrant. Born in Greece to English parents and raised in Italy and Singapore, Tash Farrant moved to Kent when she was eight but was already playing cricket for the Sevenoaks School boys’ team by the time she was 11. She made her debut for Kent in 2012, aged 16, and was also selected for the England Under 19s. She was called up to the England squad for the one-day and T20 series against Pakistan the following summer. She impressed on her T20 debut at Loughborough, taking two for 15 and offering valuable variety with her left-arm seam. However, opportunities were limited over the next few years and she was released from her central contract in early 2019. Her recall for the tour of New Zealand in early 2021 was hailed as evidence that the new domestic contracts were working, after she had proved her ability and her pace while captaining the South East Stars in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
