England make it two out of two to clinch Sri Lanka series
England eased to a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second ODI in Hambantota earlier today (Monday).
The win sees Heather Knight’s side take an unassailable two-nil lead in the three-match series.
Home captain Chamari Atapattu won the toss and elected to bat but the England bowlers limited the hosts to 187 for nine. Harshitha Madavi (42 from 46 balls) was the only batter to offer any resistance until she fell to Anya Shrubsole courtesy of a catch by Knight.
Alex Hartley was the pick of the England bowlers, claiming three for 36 whilst Shurbsole again looked impressive and finished with two for 21 from her ten overs. Laura Marsh also took two wickets.
Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont set about the Sri Lanka bowlers and put on 69 for the opening wicket. Jones raced to her second half century in two matches but fell for 54 from just 39 balls.
Beaumont made 43 and Lauren Winfield added 44 as England eased towards the required total.
In the end it was left to Knight (20*) and Danni Wyatt (13*) to see England over the line as they posted 188 for four to win by six wickets and claim the series with one match to play.
The third and final ODI will take place Katunayake on Thursday.
