HEAD TO HEAD

The two sides have met on three occasions in the past with Western Storm coming out on top each time.

In 2016 the teams faced each other at Headingley and after winning the toss and electing to bat the hosts were all out for 118. Beth Mooney top scored for Yorkshire with 56. Anya Shrubsole was the pick of the Storm bowlers, claiming five for 23 from her four overs.

In reply Stafanie Taylor and Rachel Priest shared an opening stand of 101 as Western Storm reached their target from 16.3 overs to win by six wickets.

Last year the match took place at Clifton Park, York and once again it was the Storm who emerged victorious.

58 from Lauren Winfield and 41 off 21 balls from Sophie Devine helped the hosts to post a total of 160 for seven from their allotted overs.

Western Storm’s openers once again took a liking to the Diamond’s bowlers and Priest helped herself to a stunning 106 not out from 65 balls whilst her opening partner Heather Knight scored 48 not out as the visitors won by 10 wickets.

The last time the two sides met was last month when the Storm came out on top by seven wickets at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Heather Knight won the toss and elected to field. Lauren Winfield (41) and Delissa Kimmince (55 not out) ensured that the visitors posted a total of 162 for five. Freya Davies was the pick of the Storm bowlers, claiming two for 28.

Storm lost Rachel Priest to the first delivery of the match but Smriti Mandhana and Knight put on 80 for the second wicket. The Indian superstar was the player to go for a stunning 48 from just 20 balls. Knight went on to make 97 as her side reached the required total from 15.3 overs.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Ahead of the match Head Coach, Trevor Griffin said: “Yorkshire are on the back of a good win against the Vipers but we are in good spirits on the back of some great performances this week. We’re just taking it game by game and we are expecting another tough encounter on Sunday.

“The Diamonds seem much more settled this year and Lauren Winfield is in good form. In addition to that Katherine Brunt is now back in the side and she can be destructive with both the bat and the ball. It’ll be a tough challenge but it’s one that we are looking forward to.”
