Mollie Signs First Contract

Western Storm bowler Mollie Robbins has become the 11th member of the squad to sign a professional contract.

The 24-year-old seamer, who is a product of the Gloucestershire Pathway, impressed for Western Storm this summer and her outstanding performances have been rewarded with a first professional deal.

Mollie was selected onto the Western Storm Academy in 2021 and went on to make her First XI debut later that year at Bristol in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy.

This summer Mollie became an important element of the First Team squad, claiming six wickets in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint trophy, with a best of two for 23 against Sunrisers at Radlett.

After putting pen to paper, Mollie said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get to this point, but it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. Gloucestershire have obviously played a big part in this and the coaches there have been amazing. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me get to this position.

“I was quite shocked when Lisa Pagett and Trevor Griffin made me the offer. It was far too good an opportunity to turn down and it was a no-brainer for me. I’m really excited and I’m looking forward to the winter. The key now is to train hard and make the most of this opportunity.

“It’s a really exciting time to be involved with women’s cricket. When I was growing up the only real way to become a professional was to play for your country, but now a career as a cricketer is something that young girls can genuinely aspire to.”

Head Coach, Trevor Griffin added: “We’ve all been really impressed with Mollie, and we were delighted to offer her a first contract. She has been a pay as you play player for a few years after making her way through the Academy and she has excelled whenever called upon. It’s difficult to balance a fulltime job and progressing your skills, so for her to come in and do what she did this summer is testament to the work that she’s done.

“We want to develop our own players from across the region and Mollie exemplifies that. She worked incredibly hard throughout her time on the Pathway, both at Gloucestershire and Western Storm, and we look forward to seeing how she develops as a professional.”
