Sophie Luff returns to Western Storm for 2018
Western Storm are delighted to be able to announce that Sophie Luff will be returning to help the 2018 KIA Super League Champions defend their title.
The 24-year-year old was out in the middle when Stafanie Taylor hit the winning runs in last year’s KSL final against Southern Vipers and played a major role in the team’s success in 2017, providing vital runs in the middle order. She was third in the Storm’s batting averages last year behind only Rachel Priest and Stafanie Taylor. In her seven matches Sophie scored 84 runs at an average of 28 with a high score of 30 not out.
The right-hander captained Somerset Women in 2018 and earlier this year was appointed to the position of Women and Girls Performance Head Coach by Somerset Cricket Board.
After agreeing to play for Western Storm again in 2018 Sophie said: “To be able to represent the West Country is something very special and it’s great to be able to walk out in front of big crowds at Somerset and Gloucestershire.
“The competition will be bigger than ever this year, but we are all looking forward to the challenge and hopefully I can contribute to us being successful again. I can’t wait for this year’s KIA Super League to get under way.”
Western Storm Head Coach, Trevor Griffin said: “Although Sophie is still young, she has a real wealth of experience already. The supporters in the South West love her and I’m sure that it’s only a matter of time before she receives International recognition.
“Her runs in the middle order last year were one of the main elements of our success and I am sure she will be one of our main contributors again in 2018.”
