Contract Extension for Niamh

Niamh Holland is the latest Western Storm player to commit her future to the team after she signed a one-year contract extension.

The 18-year-old from Langport, who plays her county cricket for Somerset, signed her first professional contract ahead of this summer, and everyone associated with Storm is pleased to have secured Niamh’s services for another season.

2023 was a big year for the talented all-rounder. In addition to representing England in impressive style at the Under 19 World Cup, she also made her debut in The Hundred for London Spirit. Niamh also played an important role in Somerset’s T20 success this summer.

Since making her debut for Western Storm in 2020 she has represented the region on 31 occasions across the formats, scoring 177 runs and taking seven wickets.

After signing her extension, Niamh said: “This really means a lot because I grew up watching Western Storm, so to have signed for another year is really important to me. I’m very grateful to have been given this opportunity, and to be a part of this team is a dream come true.

“I want to build on my performances and contribute to Storm winning matches.”

Head Coach, Trevor Griffin is delighted that Niamh will be continuing her cricketing journey with Western Storm. “Niamh has had a quick rise to prominence, and 2023 was a big year for her. She’s hungry to do well, never rests on her laurels and is always looking for ways to progress her game.

“She’s still only young so we need to be patient with her. She has a lot of potential and a lot to offer, so we need to ensure that we develop her in the right way. Despite her age, she brings a level of maturity to the dressing room and that was rewarded by her being given the vice captaincy this year when Dani Gibson was absent.”
