Dani delighted by maiden international wicket

Western Storm Vice Captain, Dani Gibson claimed her first international wicket this week as England fought back in the Ashes against Australia at the Kia Oval.

The 22-year-old all rounder played her part as England clinched the second IT20 to keep the series alive.

We caught up with Dani this week to discuss her Ashes experience to date.

How did it feel to claim that first international wicket?

“It felt really good,” she said. “I was obviously buzzing to have got my first international wicket and to have made a breakthrough. It was an amazing feeling and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to wear the England shirt. It’s such a great group of girls and it’s brilliant to be involved with this team.

“The win has kept the series alive, and we’ve got so much more to give. We haven’t played our best cricket yet, so everyone is excited for Saturday, and we’ll be doing everything we can to get another win. We are just going to play our best cricket and enjoy ourselves because we want to entertain and inspire. That’s when we play at our best. We’re just going to focus on the next game and take things match by match.

“The crowds have been so good. It was amazing at Edgbaston and the Oval was buzzing. They really get behind us and it feels really good to have that support.”

How has she settled into the England dressing room?

“I’ve known quite a lot of the girls for a while due to playing with them and against them whilst I was growing up. It’s such a good group and I’m loving being around them all. I’m also really enjoying the way that we are looking to play.”

Dani was presented with her cap by teammate Fran Wilson when she made her debut in the opening IT20. What was that like?

“It was a really nice moment. You can always count on Fran to do a good speech. It was also really nice because all the Storm girls had written me messages which I will keep for ever. It was a very special moment.”

Dani has been touched by the amount of good luck messages that she’s received.

“Everyone has been amazing,” she explained. “I’ve had lots of messages saying congratulations. It’s been really nice to have that support, so I feel very” lucky.
