Western Storm v Southern Vipers at Warminster

Western Storm face Southern Vipers in a 50-over friendly at Warminster CC tomorrow (Sunday July 9th).

Assistant Coach & Lead Bowling Coach, James Schofield will take charge of the side for this game, and we spoke with him earlier today to discuss the importance of this fixture.

“It was decided that it was important for players who are on the fringes of the senior squad, younger players and those on play as you play contracts to get some more cricket in,” he explained. “The thinking being that it is important for these players to have the opportunity to play high quality competitive cricket.

“It’s an important part of the jigsaw between the Academy and the senior team, and it enables some of the younger players who have performed on the Academy or the EPP to come into the environment and have that experience. It also gives some of the senior squad, who will feature against Sparks next week, the chance to get some extra time with the bat or the ball.

“We will be taking a 13-player squad which will be a real mixture of First Team players and Academy players. There will also be a few girls who have been a part of the set up in the past. It’s a really good opportunity for us to look at these players in a competitive environment.

“The game will give those who are on the fringes a real chance to push for a senior place against good opposition at a good standard.”

Storm have named the following squad: Emma Corney (c), Rebecca Odgers, Sophia Smale, Charlotte Scarborough, Bea Ellis, Katie Jones (wkt), Isobel Patel, Mollie Robbins, Alice Hill, Isla Thomson, Lola Harris, Karla Rose and Emily Edgecombe.
