Exciting new future as Western Storm evolves
Women’s & Girls’ cricket is set to be transformed as part of an exciting nation-wide strategy designed to Inspire Generations by connecting communities and improving lives through cricket, ensuring that the sport is a game for all.
After four incredibly successful years in the Kia Super League, the name Western Storm became synonymous with everything that was outstanding within Women’s cricket.
The team became the most successful in KSL history by winning the competition twice and by being the only team to reach every Finals Day.
This success on the field was matched by the huge strides that Western Storm made within the Women’s and Girls’ game by creating strong links across the region and leaving an outstanding legacy of programmes designed to encourage participation in order to ensure the future of the game.
To guarantee the prosperity of the Women’s and Girls’ game country-wide, eight regional hosts from across the UK have been given the responsibility of ensuring its future. In the South West and Wales, Somerset CCC, Gloucestershire CCC and Glamorgan CCC have joined forces to keep the Western Storm name alive whilst also leading the way in collaborative working for the greater benefit of cricket, recreation and participation across our vast region.
As a result, Western Storm has been formally registered as a NewCo with company directors from the three First-Class Counties and will be the name given to the new accessible and inclusive player pathway which will be underpinned by a thriving recreational game that welcomes a broad and representative playing population.
A key element in the success of this initiative will be the strong working relationship between the three First Class Counties and an expert advisory panel which will comprise Cricket Wales and the Cricket Boards of Devon, Cornwall, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
With Western Storm’s existing legacy set to work hand in hand with the ECB’s new wider strategy, which is designed to transform Women’s and Girls’ Cricket, this this is an exciting time for Women’s game across our region.
