Heather helps England to comfortable warm-up win
Western Storm’s Heather Knight was one of the standout performers as England began their tour of Sri Lanka with a comfortable win over the Sri Lanka Emerging Team in Colombo.
Several England player performed well in the 153 run win, whilst there was also a first England appearance for Western Storm bowler Freya Davies.
After winning the toss, Heather elected to bat first.
The hosts made an early breakthrough when Tammy Beaumont was run out for 14 by Tharika Sewwandi with the score on 22.
Beaumont’s opening partner Amy Jones reached 56 before retiring out, whilst Lauren Winfield (80) and Heather (67 from 58 balls) were also in the runs before retiring.
England eventually finished on 319 for seven from their allotted 50 overs.
The hosts were then bowled out for 166. Heather was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 13 from three overs. There was also a wicket for Davies who finished with one for 14 from six overs. Anya Shrubsole also claimed one for 19 as England cruised to victory.
The first ODI against Sri Lanka takes place on Saturday.
