Folling the announcement Western Storm Head Coach, Trevor Griffin, who is overseeing the programme, said: “I’m really excited by the future of women & girls cricket within the South West, and we’re going from strength to strength.
“We saw over 30 players to select the squad, which sees a great mix of six new players joining seven who were with us last year. There were also a number of players with exciting potential that weren’t quite ready for squad selection and I’ll be keeping a close eye on their progress at County level. We will look to invite them to work with us at some point over coming year.
“The squad will have training sessions over the next few months to focus on skills development, game awareness, S&C conditioning plus mental skills development. They’ll also have games during the summer to continue their learning.
“This is the third year of our development programme and we’ve already seen a number of players progress. Danielle Gibson made her KSL debut in 2018 and has been selected for the England Women’s Academy; Natasha Wraith has been selected for the England Academy winter training squad; Ellie Mitchell and Alex Griffiths were selected to spend time with Western Storm during the KSL and Ellie has now gone on to be selected for the England Women’s Academy.”
Whilst Trevor is in Australia working with Sydney Thunder, the programme will be run by former Western Storm Head Coach and England batter Caroline Foster.
